I visited Pompano Beach
Club a few years ago and always remembered the dramatic ocean views
and incomparable sunset in this inspiring location.
This April we were fortunate to visit
again for a perfect weekend getaway.
Perched on the southwest
coast, next to the outstanding Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton
Parish is where this unforgettable gem lies. The quaint and picturesque
capital city of Hamilton is easily accessible by cab, bus or ferry.

The Lamb Family, the
owners and guiding spirits of this dream place, are always present and
live to make each guest comfortable and happy. We weren’t an exception. On
arrival we received a mini tour given by a staff member, Steve, with his
friendly way and winning smile. After that quick and informative intro we
were escorted to our deluxe oceanfront room (#10). If you’re a fan of
sunsets that go on forever over awesome turquoise waters, this should be
your pick.

The hotel is beachfront and there are quite a few steps down to the water
but the most attractive part is the extensive sandbar (at low tide you can
wade out about 300 yards and only reach water depths knee and chest
height).
This is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. In season, there are
battery powered chaise lounges provided for guests to relax and enjoy. A watersports
center operates from early May to early October and offers
windsurfer, sailboat, kayak and snorkeling equipment rentals. Also
during this time popular catamaran trips are offered to guests from
the hotel dock. |

The trip lasts 5 ½ hours.
Other facilities and services include: a heated pool, wading/children’s
pool, two outdoor Jacuzzis, clay court tennis court (with four all-weather
courts within walking distance), fitness center, moped/scooter rentals,
game room, shuffleboard court, golf at the well-known Port Royal Golf
Course next door, poolside bar and oceanfront restaurant. Monday evening
rum swizzle parties and a cocktail lounge with nightly entertainment most
of the year are favorites for returning guests.

A complimentary shuttle service is offered to the nearby Rockaway Ferry
stop. Dining at Pompano is an event. You’ll experience a wide variety of
delectable dishes at the hands of dream team chefs Paul Proverbs and
Colin Rayner in their 6th season at the hotel. Twice a week, talented and
personable pastry chef, Jorg , with a 15 year stint here,
presents a phenomenal buffet of desserts to undermine any calorie
counter’s plan. The Bailey’s Pyramid was my indulgence for the evening.
As the weather turns, a table on the outdoor apron is the ideal spot for
an unforgettable romantic evening. |
