Half Moon Club

Jamaican Bliss

Half Moon Golf, Tennis & Beach Club: Jamaican Bliss - by Julie Caldo, CTC, MCC

I visited Half Moon Club briefly a year ago during the Snapple Superstars (a who’s who for the NFL) and immediately put it on my must stay list. This year I returned to stay in a Royal Suite and Royalty I was for the week.

I have quite an extensive travel wish list but my return to Half Moon ranked high because of the uplifting feeling I got as soon as I set foot on the property.

The staff here has embraced the philosophy that the guest is #1 and it shows in their friendly smiles and prompt, caring assistance at every turn.

"There is only one like it."

It isn’t any surprise they have a list of celebrity guests that raises and eyebrow or 2.

A closer look at the success of The Half Moon Club reveals the dynamic Heinz Simonitsch, Managing Director for 37 years, at the helm.

His wife Elisabeth is also involved at the resort, applying her many talents in hotel management and interior design.

Together the couple has managed to present a superb, stylish retreat for all ages.

Other dining alternatives

Seagrape Terrace – Open- air Contemporary Caribbean dining, specializing in nouvelle Caribbean dishes. Tiny white lights in the lovely buttonwood trees make dinner quite a romantic interlude. Breakfast and lunch are also served.

Sugar Mill – Victorian ambiance overlooking the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course and Caribbean Sea. Serving gourmet cuisine. Lunch is excellent here and dinner on the candle lit terrace is a must.

Royal Stocks – Very British. Great to rest between shopping for a delicious lunch or dinner. Traditional Fish & Chips are excellent. Royal because Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip paid a royal visit here.

Sakura – Jamaica’s only authentic Japanese restaurant, specializing in tappenyaki benyihana style.

Bellfield 1794 – Unique Jamaican restaurant on the site of a historic Sugar Mill. Part of the 3000 acre Barnett Estate. Takes guests back to the days when "sugar was king". A live jazz band plays on Sundays and a calypso band plays all other evenings.

The popular beach-side barbecue (Monday and Friday evenings) is a must at least once during your stay. If you care to wander, an exchange dining program is offered with other participating Elegant Resort Hotels.
